Attending Board of Education Meetings

The District 51 Board of Education meets twice a month on the first and third Tuesdays, beginning at 6:00 pm. Audience comments are accepted during these business meetings. See the D51 website for schedules

District Gifted and Talented Advisory Committee

Our WCAGT leaders have been members of the District Gifted and Talented Advisory Committee, formed in 2002. The committee was created by action of the Board of Education to assist in the improvement of gifted education in our district. The committee provides advice and counsel concerning on-going and emergent needs and issues relating to the education of gifted and talented students in our district. Our members come from the community and our school district.

The Challenge & Honors Programs

The Challenge school at East Middle School was School District #51’s first full-time accommodation for advanced learners, opened in Fall 1999. W-CAGT (then named ACE) was responsible for writing and actively advocating for this successful proposal for a school for gifted children. The District has since added an additional Honors Program at Mount Garfield Middle School.
