About the International Baccalaureate (IB) ProgramWhat is the IB Diploma Programme?The International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme was created in 1968. It is a demanding pre-university course of study that leads to examinations. It is designed for highly motivated secondary school students aged 16 to 19. The Diploma Programme (DP) is a two-year course of study that prepares students for university. It is a broad and balanced curriculum in which all DP students study languages, a social science, an experimental science, mathematics, and, normally, an arts subject. Wherever possible, the subjects are approached from an international perspective. The IB diploma is “recognized”, that is, accepted, by universities worldwide, including all of North America, western Europe, and Australia. At the same time, the DP generally allows students to fulfill the requirements of their national education system. The programme has earned a reputation for rigorous assessment, giving IB diploma holders access to the world’s leading universities. The DP's grading system is criterion-referenced, which means that each student’s performance is measured against well-defined levels of achievement.
